Emrys Stromberg, Ethnobotanist, MSc

Bio

As a native New Yorker, I began my career as a horticulturist at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden where I observed the myriad ways that nature brought people from diverse backgrounds together.

My journey continued at some of the finest institutions (including the New York Botanical & Longwood Gardens) where I refined my skills in plant identification, cultivation, maintenance, and public education.

Returning to my original passion for people/plant/planet interrelationships, I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, in Physical & Life Sciences, proceeded by completion of my Master of Science degree in Ethnobotany at the University of Kent’s School of Anthropology & Conservation, Canterbury, UK.

As an ethnobotanist, I have conducted fieldwork in Thailand, Cuba, the Peruvian Amazon, and most recently – with various Indigenous Peoples throughout Mexico.

Currently, I’m devoted to sharing the results of my research through live in-person talks, presentations, and multi-media storytelling. Having showcased my work at Cambridge University, UK, the University of Pennsylvania, the Puerto Vallarta and Havana Botanical Gardens, among others, I tailor my talks to suit diverse audiences.

Specialized subjects include: the medicinal, nutritional, and spiritual aspects of people-plant interrelationships. However, please check out my Ethno-Blog posts for deeper insight into the range of topics I cover.
